MATFLIX joined Ireland’s biggest event for midwives and healthcare professionals in Dublin this week. The All-Ireland Maternity & Midwifery Festival took place at the historic Croke Park stadium, and had more than 400 midwives in attendance, with 600 more watching the live stream.
Headed by your boxset curator and former editor of the Practicing Midwife Dr Jenny Hall, MATFLIX were there to help maternity professionals show themselves to be the brilliant, considered professional we know them to be. Those who view our boxsets, engage with the additional reading and use the ‘reflective questions’ can better show their employers and future interview panels how they have invested in their own future and – more importantly – better services for woman and new born babies.
While nurses and midwives in Northern Ireland have to undertake ‘revalidation’ with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the situation is different in the Republic Ireland. But is that about to change?
The 2011 Nurses and Midwives Act set out that the Republic of Ireland would maintain a ‘professional competence scheme’ for healthcare professionals. While other clauses in the act have been rolling out, this section remains ‘unfinished business’.
Could 2020 be the year the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland start consulting on the scheme? Are rumours true that 2021 has been designated for a pilot and then potential roll-out?
