Host Sue Macdonald (Co-editor, Mayes Midwifery textbook) was joined by Professor Dame Elizabeth N Anionwu DBE CBE (Emeritus Professor of Nursing, University of West London; Patron, Sickle Cell Society; Vice-President, CPHVA; Patron, Nigerian Nurses Charitable Association UK and Life Patron, Mary Seacole Trust).
Dame Elizabeth relates stories, based on her memoirs, of growing up in care, nursing and being a student midwife. She links to the challenges of everyday practice and Sue and Elizabeth provide up-to-date information and relevant discussion on how bullying has affected midwifery practice, reflecting on Elizabeth’s early life and barriers she has overcome in her career. In answering online questions, she provides pointers to current students and qualified staff on how to cope with difficult cultures and behaviours.
