In this sixth episode of Midwifery Hour, series 7, Sue Macdonald, Midwifery Expert, Mayes Midwifery was joined by Zoe Nelson, Local Maternity and Neonatal Lead Midwife, and Rachel Mullins, Perinatal Pelvic Health Midwife, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.
The need to address perinatal pelvic health was highlighted by the NHS announcement in 2021 the that NHS Pelvic Health Clinics would be set up to support pregnant women and new mums to prevent and treat incontinence and other pelvic floor issues.
These would provide a one stop shop for women, who can self refer, through their pregnancy and afterwards, providing specialist advice, exercises and treatment, plus training and support for local clinicians.
Watch a joint presentation by Zoe Nelson and Rachel Mullins describe the story of setting up their local clinic, who is involved, and provide us with the potential effects of this service on women, and how we can use this knowledge to roll out and expand the service.
