Using water during labour and birth has become an established option for women birthing in many parts of the world, though in some areas remains controversial.
There have been queries about maternal and neonatal outcomes, and in this session, Dr Ethel Burns and Dr Claire Feeley share the findings from a major systematic review and meta-analysis.
This international study included 36 studies with 157,000 births carried out in a variety of settings from midwife-led to consultant-led units.
This study highlighted the benefits of water during labour and birth – a reduction in interventions and complications and they will discuss future areas for research.
